We previously reported on the new Facebook Timeline update and the company has official made the redesign official. In a blog post, Rose Yao of Facebook details all of the changes to the current Timeline. Everything falls in line with what we saw with last week’s Facebook update to the News Feed. Overall, the redesign focuses on making the Timeline a visual experience with large thumbnails for photos, Liked content, and better integration with Instagram. Everything looks cleaner, helping to gather more information at a glance.

Here are the details about what’s going to change.

Starting with your about page, thing you’ve liked will show up with bigger thumbnails. People viewing this page will be able to like or comment directly, without having to leave the page. Facebook is also integrating with Netflix to show what you’ve been watching.

Another subtle, but handy feature Facebook added to the About page is the ability to create a reading queue for yourself. If you see a book that your friend has read, you can click the “+” symbol next to the book to add it to your books section to read later.

One of the biggest changes you’ll be noticing in your Timeline is better integration with Instagram. Additional services and sites like Instagram can be added to your Timeline so you can share more content with your friends. If you add Instagram to your profile, a grid of photos will show up. Your friends can then like and comment on them directly from the page.

Overall, the upgrades are minimal and should make your Timeline look more streamlined. There are many of the same visual queues that Facebook has taken from its News Feed, creating a whole new Facebook experience on the web.

Changes will be rolling out slowly during “the coming weeks” so be patient if you don’t see your Timeline updated yet. There’s no indication when the updated Timeline or News Feed will appear in Facebook’s mobile apps.
