Facebook is making yet more changes to its News Feed algorithm. Now, its trying to make sure that you see the right stories at the right time, instead of the current system that sometimes pushes out-of-date updates and stories to your feed.

What this means for your status updates is that if it relates to a trending story, more of your friends are likely to see it, but it will drop off as the topic cools. For people that manage Pages, this will also affect how many people see their posts, and for how long.

At the moment, Facebook looks at how many likes a post gets to decide where it will appear in the News Feed. With the new system, it will use ‘when people are choosing to like, comment and share.’ The social network also explains ‘bumping’; this is when it posts a popular post higher up in your News Feed that you had previously not scrolled down far enough to see.
