Facebook has added a ‘traveling to‘ option to status updates. This means you can share with your friends where you’re going to, not just where you are right now. The option can be found by clicking the smiley face in the Update Status box.
While this sounds like a minor change, it could make Facebook much more useful to you when you travel. You might see more updates from friends around where you are traveling to, while those friends could be automatically notified of your imminent arrival, as Path does. It could also mean ads targeted about where you are traveling. This does not happen yet, but Facebook rarely adds new features without some purpose.
Of course, if you choose to share where you are traveling, it’s important you don’t make that public, and only share it with friends. Luckily, Facebook has recently made this setting much more visible. The ‘traveling to’ option should now be available to all users.
