The official Facebook app for Windows Phone allows you to update your profile and status, check messages, follow your news feed, like pages, join groups, upload photos, chat, check-in and more.
Tons of features at your fingertips
The hub of the Facebook app is the news feed, which offers a timeline of recent posts from friends and pages you like, as well as the option to like comment or share any of these posts. There are shortcut buttons for friend requests, messages, search and notifications at the top of the interface and more options, such as upload a photo, check in and post a status at the bottom.
Facebook for Windows Phone also allows you to upload videos taken with your device directly to the app. It also integrates with Facebook Messenger for Windows Phone, allowing you to chat with your friends more easily, whether that be an individual or a group, both of which this app supports.
To access even more Facebook features click the button to quickly view and select things like your friends list, groups, events, apps, and games.
For devices with Windows Phone 8.1, the app directly connects with the People Hub so that Facebook contacts, events, and photo albums are now powered by this Windows Phone app.
A cool feature just for Windows Phone is the ability to show an ever-changing selection of your photos on your lock screen. You can also pin Facebook Groups directly to your Start screen.
When you click on a friend's profile, you can easily send them a message, write a post on their wall, share a photo with them or see their photos, poke (does anyone still do that?) or unfriend them.
A smooth user experience
Facebook for Windows Phone looks a lot more elegant than other mobile versions of the application, and lets you quickly thumb through the various Facebook features to interact with the site and view photos. It provides a very smooth experience and it's easy to navigate and find what you want.
The user inteface is clean and simple and the buttons are well positioned so you can easily do whatever you need, whether that be liking a post, commenting, messaging friends or going back to your news feed.
It gets better (almost) every day
Although it's not perfect, the official Facebook app for Windows Phone has the benefit of being constantly updated with the latest features and services through the beta testing app program. It's a much improved app compared to a few years ago and can certainly give its Android and iPhone sister apps a run for their money in terms of features and usability.
What's new in Facebook?
Microsoft has overhauled the user experience and improved app performance and Facebook for Windows Phone now supports more languages than ever before.
